Video Diary » Wyman Shoots video interview
Thursday 21st January 2010
On Saturday, January 16 the V!P's International Art Gallery in
Amsterdam hosted a private VIP Reception to celebrate the photographic
work of Bill Wyman.
Well known as one of the most famous bass players in the world, lesser
known is the fact that Bill has been a photographer for fifty years.
"I began taking photographs when I was young and took it up more seriously in the Sixties when I was able to afford my first good camera; since then I have amassed an archive of over 20,000 images," says Bill.
For decades Wyman's work as photographer and his public life as a member of The Rolling Stones went hand in hand. This status opened the doors to a world of fame and glamour, otherwise closed to the public, and now made accessible through his photos. At the same time these photos prove that Wyman isn't just another celebrity with a camera, but a full trained photographer with his own vision of people and events surrounding him.
Photos on display will include those from the 60's as well as the 70's and 80's such as Charlie Watts waiting patiently at David Frost's television show, Brian Jones viewed from the rear view mirror of a car, also Mick Taylor, Jerry Hall and Nicky Hopkins, and even a self portrait. Other pictures show rock and blues musicians such as Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, The Who, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy and BB King.
