Music Emissions wrote of the album:

"Although this is a bit of a weak turnout in terms of big hitters, this George Harrison tribute album does have some character. It's hard to destroy songs that Harrison crafted. They just ring out as long as the chords are played properly.

For instance, where did they dig up this band called Leslie West and Torque for this compilation? A better question would be why? They probably put in the weakest of the collection, a bluesy rendition of 'If I Needed Someone'.

Even ex-Wilco, Jay Bennett lets us down on 'Isn't It A Pity'. A track from the Masters of Reality, 'Devil's Radio' is probably the winner with the best track. Some other notable ones are Todd Rundgren's 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' for not changing it one bit, Marc Ford's cool version of 'I, Me, Mine' and Wayne Kramer sounding more and more like Iggy Pop on 'It's All Too Much'. Songs From The Material World is definitely not an essential album but Harrison fans might get a kick out of it."
