A weekend break from London was on the cards for Bill on Saturday, July 17 – with Bill packing up a few things and heading to Jose and Dick Kries cottage in the afternoon near Midhurst, Surrey. After arriving safely, Bill spent some time wandering the garden taking nature photos, including a couple of beautiful woodpeckers, before heading in for dinner with around 18 other guests. Bill says that the evening was great.

On Sunday, Bill headed to Cowdray House at lunchtime to attend a polo charity match, and was met by a crowd of photographers when he arrived. After getting through, Bill entered the VIP area, and met up with others including Lord and Lady Cowdray, Nick Cook, Mike and Angie Rutherford, Dave Gilmore, Kenny Jones, Bianca Jagger, and Ruby Wax. After an excellent lunch, Bill sat in the sun and watched the polo match, as well as taking photos, before heading back to London.

Monday, and a day involving filming with Stephen Fry – and some memories of the Rolling Stones. Bill headed by taxi to the Gore Hotel in Queensgate in Kensington for the filming, and says that the hotel was where – on December 5, 1968 – the Rolling Stones arranged the Beggars Banquet Press Reception, where they threw custard pies at the newspaper reporters. Bill says the filming went really well, finishing up around 3pm, before heading back home to pack and then travel to Gedding.

With Bill in Gedding, he gave over the next few days to photography and enjoying wandering the groups and watching nature. As well as lots of photos of butterflies, Bill harvested raspberries and cherries from the market garden, as well as fresh artichokes for dinner, before heading back to London on Thursday, July 22 for a trip to the dentist.
