With Bill in Gedding on Monday, July 5, and the day dawning sunny, Bill grabbed his camera and headed out to take photos of nature. During the two hours over lunch Bill was immersed in nature photography including the butterfly (pictured), and also as a bonus found some wild cherries, as well as frais de bois, strawberries and raspberries from the market garden.

Bill also picked an artichoke for dinner, before making it back home mid-afternoon. Back inside, and Bill sat down and reviewed as series of greenhouses for the market garden in Gedding, with Bill settling on one and ordering it, before having dinner.

With the semi-final match between Holland and Uraguay taking up much of Tuesday evening, Bill didn’t get to bed until late. A late start on Wednesday saw Bill head back to London late in the morning, arriving just after lunch for a business meeting. Once done – and a quick and painless visit to the dentist also ticked off – Bill settled down to work through his photo archive. Once done, Bill then watched the semi-final World Cup match between Germany and Spain, then Bill returned back to working.

Following a morning working on projects and photos on Thursday, July 8, Bill and Suzanne headed out in the evening to attend the Serpentine Gallery Summer Party in Hyde Park. Bill and Suzanne were photographed when they arrived by a bevy of photographers, then again inside by Alan Davidson, Richard Young and Dave Bennet. Bill was also excited to see that the party had four table-tennis tables, and he racked up a 20-minute game with a table-tennis champion who provided some stiff competition – although Bill says he wasn’t too bad considering he hadn’t played for around 20 years.

Bill also met a host of other celebrities during the evening, including Sir Peter Blake, Andrew Neil, Piers Morgan, Tim Jefferies, Tyrone and Jo Wood, and Bianca Jagger. Bill says he also spent the evening chatting to lots of other art people and business folk, before heading off with Suzanne to the Italian restaurant in Worlds End for a late dinner and drinks.

On Friday, Bill welcomed his old friend engineer and producer Chris Kimsey over, who brought along a vinyl album and CD of the new Peter Frampton album that he produced. Bill also noted that the Evening Standard had a photo of Bill playing table tennis, along with a caption. Bill used the rest of the day to catch up on a mass of email, as well as sending off lots of things to friends and business people.

The following two days – Saturday and Sunday – saw Bill watch the climax of the World Cup matches, with the third-place play off between Germany and Uruguay, then the final between Spain and Holland. Bill’s verdict: a dull game that was blighted by fouls.
