Friday 9th July 2010
Bill woke in Oviedo on Tuesday, June 1, having travelled there by bus the day before as part of the Spanish tour with the Rhythm Kings. Bill spent the morning in the hotel updating his diary and going through his email. He also spoke to Jo Akevshi from Cannes about the St Paul show, and also chatted to Suzanne who called from France, with them going over the up-coming St Paul events.
In the evening, Bill and the rest of the Rhythm Kings walked to the Teatro Filarmonica venue, taking the stage to an audience of 850 fans, who Bill says were brilliant and really receptive to the band and the music. The audience loved the set, which was I Got A Woman (Georgie), Sweet Soul Music (Beverley), Chicken Shack Boogie (Geraint), Too Late (Terry), All Night Long (Bill), Melody (Georgie/Beverley), Jump Jive And Wail (Georgie), She’s Lookin’ Good (Beverley), Just Your Fool (Frank), It’s A Man’s World (Beverley), Hit The Road Jack (Georgie), That’s Better For Me Baby (Terry), I’ll Be Satisfied (Beverley), Three Cool Cats (Georgie), Johnny B Goode (Geraint), I Just Wanna Make Love To You (Beverley), Just For A Thrill (Georgie), and You Never Can Tell (Bill).
The crowd loudly showed their appreciation, and so the band returned to perform I Put A Spell On You (Beverley), and Honky Tonk Women (Bill). As the band played Honky Tonk Women, the audience started standing and applauding until everyone was up and cheering when the band finished. More fantastic applause echoed after the band as they left the stage, and Bill was stopped as he left the theatre for lots of photos and autographs, with around 30 people trying to catch Bill’s attention. Bill duly obliged, then headed back to the hotel.
From Oviedo to Barcelona on Wednesday, June 2, with Bill and the rest of the band boarding the tour bus early in the morning for the long drive ahead. The drive took nearly a full 12 hours. Bill got settled into the hotel, then Bill, Georgie and Tony went and ate at an open air restaurant nearby.
Bill started Thursday, June 3, with several calls about the Stone Alone In Saint Paul photo exhibition. He then headed down to the hotel lobby to be greet by lots of fans wanting photos and autographs, which Bill was happy to do. In the evening, Bill went to the venue, giving a ten minute interview for Spanish TV and meeting more fans, before taking to the stage at 8:30 to a fantastic, enthusiastic audience.
The set was I Got A Woman (Georgie), Sweet Soul Music (Beverley), Chicken Shack Boogie (Geraint), Too Late (Terry), All Night Long (Bill), Melody (Georgie/Beverley), Just Your Fool (Frank), It’s A Man’s World (Beverley), Hit The Road Jack (Georgie), That’s Better For Me Baby (Terry), Three Cool Cats (Georgie), Johnny B Goode (Geraint), I Just Wanna Make Love To You (Beverley), Just For A Thrill (Georgie) and You Never Can Tell (Bill). The crowd loved it, and demanded encores, with Bill and the band performing I Put A Spell On You (Beverley) and Honky Tonk Women (Bill). Bill also shook hands with lots of fans at the front of the crowd, before heading backstage for drinks.
On Friday, June 4, Bill began his journey from Barcelona to St Paul in France, travelling by bus – and with the bus driver at one stage taking a wrong turn and hitting the underside of a bridge. Bill finally arrived at the Mas D’Artigny Hotel on the outskirts of St Paul de Vence, where the bus was unpacked for the band, and then Bill went on to his house, arriving in the evening. After settling in, the rest of the Rhythm Kings enjoyed a special buffet laid on by the mayor of St Paul at their hotel.
