With the Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings European tour in full flight, Bill and the rest of the band travelled from Dusseldorf to Frankfurt on Wednesday, January 20. Bill started the day by sorting through paperwork from the previous day, then dove into his packing before heading by bus to Neu Isenburg, near Frankfurt. After arriving and setting up his laptop, Bill also spent time downloading a few photos taken of the Rhythm Kings performing at the Paradiso and Ede.

As the evening rolling in, Bill left for the venue at the Hugenottenhalle in Neu-Isenburg, taking the stage at 8pm to a great, enthusiastic crowd. Bill says that his friend Deiter Hoffmann was in the front row. The first set was I Got A Woman (Georgie), Sweet Soul Music (Beverley), Jump Jive And Wail (Albert), Too Late (Terry), Everytime I Roll The Dice (Albert), All Night Long (Bill), Three Cool Cats (Georgie), Chicken Shack Boogie (Geraint), I'll Be Satisfied (Beverley), That's Rock And Roll (Albert), and You Never Can Tell (Bill). The band left the stage to great applause from the crowd and, following a short break, were soon back playing the second set.

The second set was It's A Man's World (Beverley), I'm Ready (Albert), My Toot Toot (Georgie), Just Your Fool (Frank), Race With The Devil (Terry), I Just Wanna Make Love To You (Beverley), Hit The Road Jack (Georgie), That's Better For Me Baby (Terry), Johnny B Goode (Geraint), Just For A Thrill (Georgie), and Honky Tonk Women (Bill). Bill says that during the show, the fantastic audience applauded the individual solos from the band, and were on their feet at the end of the concert, giving a standing ovation as the final notes sounded out. Naturally, Bill and the rest of the band didn’t disappoint, doing encores of Crying In The Rain (Albert/Beverley), I Put A Spell On You (Beverley), and Tear It Up (Albert).

After the show, Bill relaxed backstage with friends and some drinks, with Deiter Hoffmann coming backstage to congratulate the band and take photos. Bill then headed back to the hotel’s cocktail bar, along with Georgie, Frank, Geraint, Beverley and Tony, with the band chatting for an hour before calling it a night.

On Thursday, January 21, Bill and the rest of the Rhythm Kings spent the day trekking from Frankfurt to Aarberg in Switzerland, with the snowbound journey taking the best part of a day. Bill was particularly taken by some smaller villages that the bus travelled though as they neared Aarberg, with what Bill says were marvellous old wooden buildings, possibly from the 16/17th Century.

With no travelling needed for to tonight’s gig, Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings arrived at the venue held at the Hotel-Restaurant Krone. Bill says that on arrival, the band were ushered into a small hall – much like a small school assembly hall, and were greeted by an enthusiastic, if slightly small, audience. With the gig proving up-close and intimate, the first set was I Got A Woman (Georgie), Sweet Soul Music (Beverley), Jump Jive And Wail (Albert), Too Late (Terry), Everytime I Roll The Dice (Albert), All Night Long (Bill), Three Cool Cats (Georgie), Chicken Shack Boogie (Geraint), I'll Be Satisfied (Beverley), That's Rock And Roll (Albert), and You Never Can Tell (Bill).

A short break, and then the band launched into the second set, kicking off with It's A Man's World (Beverley), I'm Ready (Albert), My Toot Toot (Georgie), Just Your Fool (Frank), Race With The Devil (Terry), I Just Wanna Make Love To You (Beverley), Hit The Road Jack (Georgie), That's Better For Me Baby (Terry), Johnny B Goode (Geraint), Just For A Thrill (Georgie), and Honky Tonk Women (Bill). With the audience on their feet by the end of the show, and demanding more, Bill and the band were happy to step back into the spotlight, with three cracking renditions of Crying In The Rain (Albert/Beverley), I Put A Spell On You (Beverley), and Tear It Up (Albert) giving the evening a seal of approval.

Bill left the stage, with applause rippling through the crowd. The hotel owner, who Bill says was really great, presented Bill a gift of a solid gold 20 Franc coin from 1969, in its own presentation box as a thank you gift.
