Wednesday 18th February 2009
With Bill and the band encamped in Eindhoven, Bill started the day by working on his diary and downloading photos from the previous day on Thursday, January 29. Bill headed off to the venue in the afternoon, arriving in time to conduct a sound check.
Dinner was grabbed backstage at the Theater Heerlen, though Bill wasn’t too impressed with the food – instead sending out for what he dryly termed ‘debatable’ ribs and chicken wings.
A quick change, then the band were on stage for the first set just after 8pm, with the first set starting with I Got A Woman (Georgie), Jump Jive and Wail (Albert), Show Me (Beverley), Too Later (Terry), All Night Long (Bill), Cakewalk Into Town (Geraint), Melody (Georgie/Beverley), Till I Gain Control Again (Albert), Race With The Devil (Terry), Green River (Bill/Beverley), and then ending with She's Lookin' Good (Beverley).
After a 20-minute break, the band were back on stage with the second set, including I'm Ready (Albert), Chicken Shack Boogie (Geraint), Honky Tonk Woman (Bill), Hit The Road Jack (Georgie), Sweet Soul Music (Beverley), Three Cool Cats (Georgie), That's Better For Me Baby (Terry), That Is Rock and Roll (Albert), How Strong Is A Woman (Beverley), You Never Can Tell (Bill), Johnny B. Goode (Geraint), and ending with I Put A Spell On You (Beverley).
With the crowd crying for more, the band returned to perform an encore of Crying In The Rain and Tear It up, all to a standing ovation. Bill and the band relaxed back stage, before Bill left, signing items for fans and posing with fans for photos outside the venue.
The next day saw Bill up early and working through paperwork, writing emails, and packing for the journey from Eindhoven to Groningen – with the group arriving at the Hotel De Ville in Groningen and Bill having a dinner with Beverley at a Japanese restaurant. With the band due on stage at 8pm, Bill changed into his stage clothes, and then he went with Tony and Beverley by bus to the venue at the De Oosterpoort, arriving to a terrific crowd that gave the band a warm welcome – and the band played the same two sets as the previous night.
On the back of the past week’s gigs, Saturday was a day off for the band, and Bill packed up and headed to Amsterdam with the band around noon, arriving at the American Hotel and checking into a mini-suite that Bill was happy with. With the day unscheduled, Bill caught up with friends on the phone, with the band heading out for drinks in the evening.
