Sunday 18th May 2008
Following a couple of days spent on Tuesday and Wednesday at Gedding, where Bill continued working on several projects and spent time taking some photos of the surounding landscape, he headed back to London.
Thursday, May 8, and a busy day for Bill. After getting up early, Bill spoke to Charlie Watts about a planned charity tribute to cricker Ian Botham planned to take place that evening. Bill then headed out to lunch with Terry Taylor and Tony Panico, and Bill bumped into Jimmy Nail, who stopped for a quick chat.
Lunch took a more business turn, with Bill joined by Maurice Suissee and Jean Renee, with Bill chatting to Maurice about Rhythm Kings gigs in France in July - more details are we have them - and a big show in Monaco in August. Bill then headed off to a nearby second-hand bookshop to pick up some reference material.
The evening was given over to cricket, with Bill picking up Charlie from his house and heading to the Grosvenor House Hotel to attend the charity tribute dinner, called The Greatest Knight Of Them All.
For cricket fans, it was a treat. Bill chatted to the likes of Bob Willis, David English, Viv Richards, Allan Lamb, David Gower and - of course - Ian Botham. Other musical names attending included Eric Clapton and Pink Floyd's Nick Mason.
Bill says that the evening was great, and he thought that Rory Bremner, who compared the event, was particularly funny. He was also impressed with Eric and his band, who did a great blues set during the evening.
The next day - Friday - and Bill caught up on his business work and concert plans, heading to bed just before 2am.
Saturday, and two disappointments for Bill. The first is that Bristol City just pipped Crystal Palace - Bill says he was disappointed with the result - and the second was the Madonna concert. Bill says that he thought her singing and performance was so bad he had to stop watching it...
